Welcome to Winter Harbor, Hometown Memories: Vintage photos used as focal points in Mixed Media Art.
The family photos of Little Moose Island are the backbone of my mixed media art pursuits. This island in the photo above is owned by the National Park Service.
In the approx. years of 1920’s-1940’s the Coombs brothers and their families had a cabin on this island. Every summer they would move their lobstering operation to the island and many of them would stay there for the summer. This is when folks went lobstering in a double ended dory.
The works pictured here are titled “Pie Anyone?” and the woman is coming out of the tarred paper cabin with a freshly made pie. I imagine this must have been cooked in a wood stove and perhaps even the berries were picked on the island. This is a way of life that is unfamiliar to me and most everyone in these times. I loved the story and others that I will share. If you have memories to share please do so here!
